He is also one of my personal favourites as well. His sieges of Numantia and Carthage were very similar in the tactics and strategy he used, but both performed expertly at periods when the Romans were being put under pressure by the respective opponents.

Life at the Lodge: 3) History Posted on December 8, December 8, by Paddy Vipond in Guyana A week of no guests provided me with ample time to browse the various bookshelves around the Lodge and uncover the dated, and often torn, contents that had been quietly resting on the hardwood, busy collecting dust and bat droppings. Get this from a library! Ninety year history of Scipio, [James A Sorenson, Mrs.].

The short story of the battle is that a Roman army under Scipio met and destroyed the Carthaginian Army under Hannibal. The defeat forced the Carthaginian Senate to sue for peace and ended the war. What makes the battle interesting from my perspective is that the Roman army was outnumbered and on the offensive and still won. A Fort Scipio also existed here at one time. The nearest town ca. 15 miles southwest of Scipio on I is Holden. About 30 miles south/southeast are the towns of Redmond, Salina and Aurora. About half-way between Scipio and Salina is Lake Scipio on the west side of US The lake has been drawn down for several years. Probably no fish left.
